The only part you replace is the tip.
An indestructable toothbrush handle built from 316L stainless steel — no plastic anywhere. The head clamps the bristles of your liking, eg. a trimmed miswak twig — swap the tip every few weeks, keep the handle for good.
46 grams of steel
Handle body, draw rod and screw: three parts, one material. 122 mm long, with nothing in it that isn't metal.
Small and handy
The shallow ovals in the waist sit at the handle's balance point. Your thumb finds it without looking.
A knurled nut at the tail
Turn the nut at the end and the jaws at the head open; turn it back and they close on a fresh tip.
Nothing to age out
No glued ferrule, no plastic collar, no spring in a different alloy. Every part is the same 316L steel, so nothing corrodes against anything else.
Rendered from the prototype's CAD model.
How it clamps
Turn the knurled collar at the tail and the jaws at the head open and close. Set bristles like a fresh miswak tip in place, turn it, and it's held as firmly as the last one was.
Buy once,
keep it for life
A plastic toothbrush is thrown away whole every few months — handle, bristles, blister pack — and the toothpaste tube goes with it. Here, nothing about brushing your teeth is plastic, and nothing plastic is left over.
No plastic, anywhere
Handle, draw rod and clamp screw are all stainless steel. The tip is a twig. No nylon bristles shedding into the sink, no polymer handle, no glue — nothing in your mouth that came out of a refinery.
No more plastic waste
The handle doesn't wear out; if it ever needs it, it can be resurfaced or polished rather than replaced. The only thing you ever throw away is a few centimetres of miswak — and that goes on the compost.
No tube, no sink — use it at your desk
Miswak has been used to clean teeth for thousands of years, long before toothpaste existed, and it's traditionally used dry. Trim the end, chew it soft, and it splits into a brush of its own — no toothpaste, no water, no bathroom. Keep it next to the keyboard: a few minutes with it between meetings, or just something solid to turn over in your hand while you think.
